Well, now you know of my own Deer encounter, and we can be even more deeply united as Deer Women. ;)

This is beautiful Amanda. This sent me thinking and feeling in so many directions. Loving another creature like a lover/ Your relationship to the wild. Our human fear but also need of the wild. Our awe at its power. I imagine you know the story of the woman who married the bear. I heard Clarissa Pinkola Estes tell it a few years ago and I love her version if you don’t know it already.

Also... I was just adventuring around your Notes from Saving the World... I am a Scottish-American (with some other Celtic lineages as well). My grandfather came over here in the 30's. I'm dying to go... hopefully next year!

And I was remembering one if my good friends from that CPE course also had grandparents who had moved from scotland to the states. She found a lot of richness in visiting scotland. Do you know where your family are from?

They were / are from just a bit north of Edinburgh ~ on the sea, Fife & St. Andrew’s. I have cousins there who are living bards, poets and folk musicians. So many happenings that have kept me from going sooner (including the pandemic!), but I am creeping steadily closer to this most important and epic journey. I keep making Scottish friends the last few years! :) I can feel the land calling and welcoming me… and of course, through my training have worked deeply with the stories, shamanic traditions and music and just spirit of Alba. 🙏🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🪽

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts here. Yes, to all these themes, which I think I'll dance with all my life! And yes! I do know this story. What a gift to hear the good Dr. tell it. I was fortunate to meet her once, briefly. She spoke at my college graduation! Perhaps I'll revisit the tale soon. Thanks again for reading.

Wow that is amazing she spoke at your graduation. I have been to study with her twice in Colorado. She is the best teacher I know. I always go back to her stories - there is always a new lesson. And yes - the stories always come back when we need them - sounds like you have your own bear stories to write as well :)

She is the best. Wonderful you've studied with her!! You should see my copy of WWRWTW. :) I should probably just get a new copy, but the one I've got has decades of blood, sweat and tears in it! Can't seem to let it go! I'm guessing you've got Bear stories too... or some wild equivalent. I look forward to following along to hear them!

Yes I relate. My copy is so well worn. I used to bring it with me everywhere just incase. I like it more for its worn-ness! And yes maybe not bear adventures but yes other encounters with the wild. 🙂
